I was a junior, and we were in the beginning of the fall semester, actually during freshman orientation. I was there as an orientation counselor of sorts. I wasn't formally, but I was associated with one of the student organizations that wanted to be there and involved. One of the benefits was that I could move into my dorm room before the other returning students. I had spent a good deal of the summer (while working in the area) designing and building a custom loft for my single dorm room (TINY, only about 8x10 with an alcove & a closet. It was amazing, and it split the room up literally into two stories, albeit VERY LOW CEILINGED, complete with a section with no deck where the staircase (not ladder, a real but steep staircase) rose up. My mattress was on top and my livingroom/ entertainment center was below. Although you might say my entertainment center moved... upstairs... when the need arose. I had carpeting everywhere, and the loft was immobile, way overdesigned, and sturdy. There was NO flex in the upstairs deck. I could have put a waterbed on the top. Anyway, I had a huge stereo, a couch, a bed, a desk, and just about everything a college student could want (except a car). It was an amazing room. As if I didn't already know this, every new and returning student who passed my door spent at least ten minutes dumbstruck either inside my room or standing at the room's edge looking in, no doubt jealous.
