I was puzzled by her reaction since I figured that surely a girl this beatiful must have had plenty of positive feedback by now so that even if she wasn't stuck up about it, she would at least realize that guys suffered no eyestrain whatsoever when looking at her. Then I recalled what a friend of mine who had studied in Australia for a year told me once about that culture. Apparantly the Aussie male psyche is heavily slanted towards macho and male dominance and showing too much respect too soon towards a "Sheila" would look sissy or something.
