While his face was still covered up, he was moved to a new room. He saw it for the first time the morning Monica took off his bandages. It was large, sunny, and finished in an extremely feminine decor. Joe was delighted by his new room, although he didn't know why. "No more breakfast in bed for you." Monica told him. "This morning you get dressed and eat in the cafeteria with the rest of us peasants. Now go and wash up, while I lay out your clothes." Joe felt anticipation grow in him for some reason. "Hey, it's not such a big deal, going out for breakfast," he told himself, mistaking it's source. There was no mirror in the bathroom, so Joe couldn't observe the remodeling that had been done to his face. However, as he washed, Joe could perceive some changes by touch; his nose felt smaller, his lips were fleshy and appeared to project out, over teeth that didn't seem to meet just right. He wondered about the tattooing on his face. "I think I read somewhere that they can be removed by lasers," he thought to himself. |
